Moving to the back of Petamburan Public Cemetery, we find one of the more magnificent graves. Although not as grand as Oen Giok Khouw's mausoleum, this grave is completely covered in marble. The gravestone is also large, providing a lot of information about the person buried there. Unfortunately, the glass frame holding the photo in the upper right corner of the gravestone is cracked, making the portrait unclear.
"Here lies Dr. J.K. Panggabean. Age: 84 years old. Born: August 21, 1898 in Loboe Hole Tarutung. Died May 17, 1982 in Jakarta," reads the inscription on the tombstone.
The same tombstone also bears J.K. Panggabean's titles and positions. They are listed as follows: Title of Sutan Mahopung Ompu Raja Pasang Batu II (a traditional title); Dr. Honoris Causa; MPRS (Provisional People's Consultative Assembly) in the Republic of Indonesia 1960-1968; Representative of HKPB (Batak Protestant Christian Church); GR. (teacher) Huria Menteng Lama HKBP; PT Piola Building. The last part of the tombstone describes J.K. Panggabean's extended family, which includes 16 children and in-laws, 60 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. The inscription on the gravestone closes with a verse from the Old Testament, Psalm 23:1.
