From the hot and humid climate of the northern coast of western Java to the cool mountains in the interior, all were included in the territory of the Tarumanagara Kingdom. This Hindu-style kingdom was once the largest kingdom in the western part of Java.
Referring to its physical remains, namely seven inscriptions and a temple complex, the territory of this kingdom that is said to be the oldest kingdom on the island of Java, if compared to the present day, stretches from Pandeglang (Banten Province) in the west, Koja (DKI Jakarta) in the north, the Cimanuk River (Indramayu Regency) in the east, and Nanggung (Bogor Regency) in the south. It is estimated that the kingdom existed since the 4th century, as did the Kutai Kingdom in East Kalimantan.
