MIENARSIH Soedarpo recalled Maria Ullfah, her senior at Koning Willem III School who, decades later, would become her sister-in-law. Mien recounted that she had known Maria for a long time because Maria came from a large, prominent family.
“The Djajadiningrat family has indeed been famous for a long time. Back then on Kebon Sirih Street, there were several famous names: Kusumo Utoyo, Achmad Djajadiningrat, and my father, Wiranatakusumah,” Mien recalled.
Mienarsih Soedarpo was the widow of businessman and activist Soedarpo Sastrosatomo. She was the daughter of Syarifah Nawawi and R.A.A. Wiranatakusumah, the regent of Bandung. When she was still a young woman in Suliki, West Sumatra, Syarifah was the love interest of Tan Malaka. Soedarpo’s older brother, Soebadio Sastrosatomo, married Maria Ullfah in 1964, while Soebadio was a political prisoner under Sukarno.
