THE mutiny of the crew of De Zeven Provinciën which protested against wage cuts, quickly sparked various reactions, both in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) and in the Netherlands. In Batavia, criticism came from the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies, B.C. de Jonge, who in his speech on February 7, 1933, called the actions of the Dutch East Indies warship sailors irresponsible.
