IN the courtroom of the Extraordinary Military Court (Mahmilub) at the Bappenas Building, Central Jakarta, on October 17, 1966, during the 14th session of the trial, Dr. Soebandrio stood up from his seat. As the defendant, he was about to read his defense before the presiding judge, Lieutenant Colonel CKH Ali Said.
The face of the man who had previously held various positions in President Sukarno's administration was clouded with gloom, which then burst into tears. He couldn't hold his tears because in the previous trial on October 13, 1966, he received the death penalty from prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel CKH Durmawel Achmad. Soebandrio was the former foreign minister, head of the Central Intelligence Agency (BPI), deputy prime minister I (Waperdam I), deputy commander-in-chief (Wapangsar) of the Supreme Command for the Retooling of the Revolutionary Apparatus (Kotrar), and Deputy Commander of the Supreme Command for Economic Operations (Kotoe).
