ANDITYA Restu Aji still remembers what happened a quarter of a century ago. That afternoon, her mother picked her up after school at Marsudarini Elementary School in Yogyakarta. Their plan to go home suddenly changed after the mother of one of Anditya's friends invited them to the town square.
“Let's go to the Post Office and BNI (Yogyakarta Kilometer Zero Point). Paulina is being paraded to Alun-Alun Lor (the North Square)!” she said to Anditya's mother enthusiastically, as recounted by Anditya to Historia.ID.
The people of Yogyakarta flocked to the town square that day. They wanted to see Gabriela “Gaby” Spanic. Gaby's name skyrocketed in the Indonesian public eye after her success starring in the Mexican telenovela La Usurpadora, which aired on TPI in 1999. Gaby Spanic, as reported by Bali Post on April 2, 2000, held a fan meeting and a parade around the city of Yogyakarta on April 2-3, 2000, which coincided with Sunday and Monday. Her visit on the second day was crowded because school children also welcomed her.
