The Bekasi River stands as a silent witness to the bustling activity of people across civilizations. It is one of the few “legacies” of the Tarumanagara civilization, as recorded in the Tugu Inscription. In that inscription, the ancient name of the Bekasi River is Candrabhaga River.
The Bekasi River, stretching approximately 35 kilometers in length, originates from the confluence of the Cileungsi and Cikeas Rivers in the area between Bojong Kulur (Bogor Regency) and Jatiasih (Bekasi City). Its terminus is at the Cikarang Bekasi Laut (CBL) inspection channel—built in the 1970s—near the Babelan area in Bekasi Regency. During the Tarumanagara era, the Candrabhaga River was excavated during the reign of King Purnawarman (r. 395–434 CE) to flow directly from the inland region to the sea.
