THE sun had just risen over the city of Bogor that December morning in 1967. Breakfast was still being prepared in Pavilion II of the Bogor Palace Complex. But at 8 a.m. that morning, a letter suddenly arrived from Commander of the Jayakarta Military Command Major General Amir Machmud that shocked Siti Soehartini or Hartini, Sukarno's third wife.
The letter was an order, stating that President Sukarno was no longer allowed to stay at Pavilion II. In addition, the letter also contained an ultimatum that Hartini and Sukarno had to leave by 11 a.m.
